Finding Nearby Gauges (Australia Only)
The 'Find Nearby Gauges' menu item takes advantage of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's (BOM) gauge finding system. It will automatically populate the latitude and longitude of the catchment centroid (or design plane if no catchment exists) into the point coordinates on the webpage. All you need to do is fill in how many stations you would like to find.

In the second part of the form, you need to choose what type of station you are looking for. You can also search by name id or river.

Once you have done this, click 'Search'. An example of the information returned can be seen below.

To convert this to a point file readable by CatchmentSIM, you will need to undertake the following steps:
•Copy and paste the information into Excel
•Move the X column (Longitude) first and Y column (latitude) second
•Place minus signs before the latitude (since they are in degrees south)
•Save as a CSV.

Once you have done this, you should be able to load the CSV file as a vector layer and display the station locations. If you include a rainfall observation as a new column in the CSV file, you will even be able to interpolate a rainfall grid using the Interpolate Grid From Points tool.
